So, it still did not start huh? Damn! OK, let's do this. Crank the engine
around until the points are open and check the gap. You can sometimes do this
by
bumping the starter until you get lucky (cap off of course). If that is ok, the
only other thing I can think of is that you are simply not getting enough
spark...
list? We (me from a distance) have checked to be reasonably sure that he is not
180 out on the distributor, he has compression (though it has not been checked
with a guage) and it appears to have fuel. The car won't even fire on starting
fluid. If he were one tooth off on the timing gears he would have bent a valve
right away. It has been so long since I have messed with points that I may be
missing something. He seems to be getting spark. The only other thing I can
see
is to set the engine to TDC (zero on the crank) and check the lobes on the cam
(both up, both valves closed, next thing that would happen if the engine
continued
to turn would be that the exhaust valve would open) and make sure the
distributor
rotor is pointing at number one. (By the way, if the crank is at TDC, then the
bolts in the cam should be flat horizontal to each other... checking the cam
timing for one tooth off here, correct list?). If that is good, then advance
the
timing on the distributor 15 degrees or so (somewhere between the middle 0
(zero)
and the A on the scale to the left). If you have spark, compression and fuel,
it
has to fire. Maybe it got flooded the last time after we fixed the carb issue.
Pull the plugs and let it air out for 30 minutes just to be sure, put them back
in, pull the starter chokes on, and crank it with no pumping of the throttle.
List? Any other suggestions?
Greg
