I requires a special tool. It looks like a bent screwdriver with a 'V' cut in the blade. Probe around until you feel the 'V' slip around the clip, bump the end of the handle with your hand to seat it, and pry it away from the sheet metal. It will pop out without damaging the panel. I found mine at the local parts house for around $8 or so.
