that is a protective coating on the studs, brass is too soft to be used for a
head stud. As for as the compatability issue, since the stud is not brass it
is a non-issue. Steel will rust quickly, due to the heat in the engine area,
if you already have the Nissan part put it in there. I have been told to be
careful using SS bolts and AL bolts because of the reaction between disimular
metals, the warning was of caution, "If you are not certian that it will not
cause a metal to metal, don't use it. If it is a Nissan part, chances are
that it is OK. Perhaps some one can publish a list of replacement parts that
will work. What bolts can be replaced with alunimum? Stainless? Does anyone
make stainless steel body parts for the car. I can get a good deal on the
sheet metal for that. OK enough for me
