I received a very nasty email from a guy the other night, calling me all
kinds of names for sending him an email with a virus attachment....and I
realized that a lot of people don't understand how the Klez virus ( and all
its variants) works. Lots of people do, so bear with me, or stop reading
here if you do.
Lets say "Tim" is a novice user - no AV software, anxious to have fun on his
new computer.
Tim gets an email with an attachment with a funny story about Snow White.
He opens it - wham his machine is infected.
On Tim's machine is an address book with Joe, Sue, and Bill.
Klez sends itself from Tim's machine, "To:Joe From:Sue", "To:Bill From:Joe",
and possibly "To:Sue From:Sue"
It sends itsel to everyone in the book, using names from the book as the
"From:" address, with vaious, random "Subject:" lines.
Joe, also a new user, but with AV software, sends a scathing email to Sue
about the virus SHE sent to him, but she never sent it, tTim's infected
machine did
This behavior makes it difficult to figure out who has the infection.
Adding to the confusion is a listserver such as the one that operates this
list. It strips any and all attachments from all emails, resulting in some
wierd mails, with cryptic subject lines.
Mandatory Roadster content: Our custom is coming along ( slowly - had lots
of family stuff happening this month). I'll have some new pictures up
shortly - got the hood back from having 16 louvers, 8 per side added near
the rear of the scoop, shift hole surround is welded in, templates made for
sheetmetal for enlarging the tranny tunnel for bellhousing clearance, custom
alternator mount is done, and the seat brackets are completed. Bought a
Mustang GT 8.8 rear axle - 3:55 traction-loc which I'll be having narrowed
is the next moth or so. Have done some research, and found that the PT
Cruiser has a watts link setup in the rear that I feel can be adapted to the
"R".
