For you "newbies" who noticed that the hood and trunk are not easily opened if
something goes wrong, here are a couple of suggestions. I had a hood release
cable fail, and it takes major effort to reach the latch. When I got the hood
open again, I fastened a stout piece of nylon cord to the opening lever, ran
it over the brake and clutch cylinder bodies, down the side of the inside
fender well, and tied it to the frame. If my cable breaks I can pull on the
cord to release the latch. The trunk has the same problem. On some roadsters
there is a rubber-plugged hole inside the trunk directly under the latch. I
had to drill one with a 1/4" bit. Run a wire or string to the latch and test
to see if pulling the wire from under the car will release the latch. I used
wire and made a loop on the end. It's faster and easier than using a key, so
I "test" mine all the time. For a small fee I will send you a set of
engineering drawings which detail the two improvements, or for a slightly
larger fee I can send you the "deluxe" hood and trunk release kit which also
includes the wire and cord needed to install the kit, safety labels and
instructions for the inside of the trunk in case you are kidnapped and
imprisoned there, hood release pointer arrows to allow firemen access to the
engine compartment if your engine catches fire, and a 1/4" titanium drill bit
in its own protective sleve for roadsters without the rubber-plugged hole.
