I've had this happen too. Try moving the dist. gear one tooth . You have to
take out those 2 - 1/4" bolts at the base of the dist. housing. Timing
advance on a 7.5 dist cam shouldn't make that much diff.....Make sure the
rotor is pointing at #1 or close to it when you have it a TDC.  Make sure
the dizzy is completely seated on the mounting, this might take a couple of
revs after you've had the mounting and dist. gear out.
One last thought, did you put the dist cam back in correctly, did you change
the vacuum unit out on the dist? These can throw off the your initial timing
setting also.
The car won't start if its 180 off, it'll just backfire alot.,
