Thanks Fred. Grubby, dirty and nasty doesn't bother me. What ever gets
dirty, gets washed.

Rather easy, actually. Grubby, dirty, and nasty but easy.

Jack up the rear end. Set your jack stands under the frame. Disconnect the
shocks, torsion stabilizer (the horizontal bar gizmo going to the frame on
the passenger side), and remove the drive shaft. IMO it's easier to remove
the dif from the springs and then remove the springs. Otherwise, the dif
will drop down on the loose side putting a twist in the other spring. It
doesn't take much. This makes it difficult to remove the shackles. Put
your jack under the side you are removing and just take the weight off of
the spring. Remove the bolts holding the dif to the spring . Put a jack
stand (blocks, whatever) under the axle to keep level. Do the same to the
other side. Then remove the springs from the shackles. The shackle
actually looks like a chain master link. Remove both nuts, take off the
side plate, and the other side with the bolts attached will come out as a
unit.

While you are at it, I would suggest that you get a urethane rear end kit
from Dean. It made a nice difference on mine. Chances are the rubber is
pretty well shot anyway. Urethane is much stiffer and takes some of the
mush out of the rear.
