Trevor,

My 66 1600 oil pressure gauge always indicated something like that on the
highway but when a friend brought his mechanical oil pressure tester it
indicated slightly higher. When starting it will always be higher because
the oil is cold and has more viscosity.

Bring the car to a mechanic and they should be able to test your oil
pressure for you to put your mind at ease.

40lbs ain't bad and unless you're running a 2L oil pump that's about normal.
With the 2L pump installed in my 66 stroker I was running about 60lbs on the
highway. But who knows how accurate that gauge is.

BTW, when I ripped apart my engine all the bearings were fine.
