  I tried that last summer; left off that one nut that is tucked under the
rear carb.  I HAD problems with leaking exhaust!  I think the secret to
getting that nut on is to do it first.  Get it started on the stud while the
exhaust manifold or header is still loose and you have a bit more room to
work.  Then it's time for long handled box wrenches to tighten it up once
the other 9 are in place.
