I have been told that Steve "Ever the Snob" Earl will be running the
festival this year and unlike past years, no "lesser" cars will be allowed
to race such as MGs, Lotuses (except 11s and more expensive ones), Healies,
Triumphs, Alfas (except expensive ones), Fiats, Turners, Daimlers and of
course Datsuns.
I guess they don't fit in with the "blue bloods" he invited to participate,
although way back when, MG TDs, TCs and TFs were the backbone of many early
SCCA races at the Glen, Sebring, Road America and other venues.
There won't be racing but more like parade laps for the rich in their
expensive cars.
Many British car clubs have started a letter writing campaign protesting the
new rules and from what I heard through the grapevine, the auto entries are
quite low as some of the rich guys resent that their less fortunate buddies
won't be able to race. Additionally, many of the "lesser" cars made up a big
part of the entries.
We hope that Steve Earl will be sent back to Monterey and we'll never see
his smug face again. You CA guys can keep that arrogant pr-ck, and he
certainly is an arrogant pri-k, after meeting him many years ago at the
Glen. I guess he thought he was too good to talk with us lesser people who
just came to watch and enjoy.
Mike
PS - I was very happy that he smashed up his Ferrari 250LM later in the day
trying to race Stirling Moss and Brian Redmond. I'm sure it wiped that
arrogant expression right off his face.
