OK, I assume your head is bolted down, your cam is set with the #1 lobes at 10
and
2, and that the #1 piston is at TDC. If not, make sure that you are careful
about how you rotate the engine with the cam in it, as you will likely hit
valves
(if need be, you can move the crank by the shortest route to the left or right
so
that the keyway is at either 3 or 9, then you can move the cam, as the pistons
will not be in the way). If everything is set up (#1 at TDC, cam at 2 and 10),
the crank keyway should be at 12. THE CAM BOLT HOLES SHOULD BE HORIZONTAL AND
THE
DOWEL SHOULD BE UP. Put the gears on. If necessary, move the jackshaft around
**
with the chains off until you can set it up so that YOU CAN DRAW AN IMAGINARY
LINE
THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE JACKSHAFT, THE CENTER OF THE CRANKSHAFT AND THE CENTER
OF THE TIMING DOTS ON THE CRANK AND BIG JACKSHAFT GEAR. Pull the gears off and
put on the chains. Everything should still line up. To be sure, spin the
engine
over by hand and make sure that you don't hit any valves, as 1 tooth off can be
disasterous. Make sure it all still lines up as described. You should be good
to
go! Thanks to Dan at Rallye Roadster for most of this info!!!
** (I assume you do not have the distributor gear in it yet, but if you do and
it
is now no longer pointing at #1 for the distributor, then you will have to pull
it
out and fiddle around until it is close.. no big deal).
