Unlike regular engines that have cams that ramp up the closing of the
valves, rotaries have ports and the rotor opens and closes on the ports
without the ramp and hence the loudness of the motor. Kinda like a door
being slammed shut.

Rotaries as Tom mentioned have very high exhaust temperatures and custom
headers and a very heavy exhaust would be required as well as a muffler that
can withstand the temperatures.

The crank center is also very high as compared to regular piston motors and
the motor would have to be set lower in the frame to get the correct
driveshaft angles.

Great engine when port work is done but stock they're basically dogs except
for the Turbos. Horrible gas mileage also.
