For all:
This Z part thing could be a good deal.
By comparison, my parts bill for
4 synchros, the 7 bearing kit, the gasket kit, and
the locking plate for 5th gear was 436$$. This includes
shipping and tax. And I searched among all the usual
roadster venders for the best price! My tranny
rebuilder warned me to make sure I got the metal
synchros, not brass. In fact the supplier made sure
my tranny did not have brass synchros, I guess in some
way they damage the tranny so the good synchros dont
work so well anymore. I asked my tranny builder about
welding or pinning 5th gear, and he said it was on a spline
and looked great, in fact the whole gearset looked great.
He just recommended the bearings, they were a little loose.
And the synchros were definatly shot!!
The hard part was getting the stupid blue plastic 18tooth
speedo gear, which I have described in previous E-mails.
I pick up the tranny today, labor is $280 which includes
reaming out the starter bolt holes and installing
helicoils (another P.O. force an american bolt in a
metric hole sort of thing)
