Hi Ya John,
I'm sure others will give better description but here is what I rememeber.
Both leading and trailing sides of each gear tooth should look the same and
should not be flat. They should not look like they are leaning to one side
and should not come to a point. The very tip of each tooth should be flat
and the flat should measure about 1/32" from front to rear. That's a start.
