When I last drove my car the temp gauge had to be tapped to make the needle
move up. By the time I was done tapping the temp was extremely high. The
radiator did not bubble over or anything, the only indication was the gauge.
Just to be on the safe side I bought a new Autometer electric temp gauge.
The problem is that the sending unit adapter that came with it looks like it
will not fit were the stock one is.
Now the questions
1. How do I get the stock sending unit out? I got the keeper/holder out,
but the sending unit stayed in.
2. Is there another adapter to fit in the stock location?
There was something else I noticed. With the radiator cap off I revved the
motor to check for water flow. When I did this water overflowed out of the
filler neck. It seems that this would indicate a blockage in the radiator,
but maybe this is normal for this set-up. I put my hand on the front of the
radiator to check for cold spots but, the temp was pretty uniform.
I did check the timing with a light and got it dead on the mark. I also
made sure that the system was completely full of water (burped the
thermostat).
