Brake brace or other

My 2000, like most others, has a crack in the firewall next to the tandem 
master cylinder.  Stan, I'm told, used to have a brace.  But he doesn't have 
anymore.  Does anyone have an extra?  What does it look like?  Are there 
other options, like welding?  Anyone done that?  Pictures?
