I also have used Simple Green, and with a high-pressure washer. Before you
used any cleaning chemicals, park over some newspapers laid out to catch the
dirt. Use scrapers to scoop off as much of the layers of dirt and grease as
possible. The last car I cleaned had layers about 3/8's of an inch thick.
After moving the car away from the newspapers, I had a mound of what looked
like dinosaur crap (lots of it).

Only then did I spray on the Simple Green and use the pressure washer to
blast away what remained. Be careful to avoid hitting rubber and plastic
with a pressure sprayer as it'll chew right thru. Be nice to your neighbors
and sweep up all the chunks from the curb and gutter.
