I had a major static problem with an aftermarket radio and learned two things.
1. it makes a differece if the hood is raised, ignition static was
horrible with the hood up. Someone gave what sounded, at the time, to be a
perfectly logical explanation for why that would be the case but I can't
remember what it was.
2. grounds are critical and it was a bad ground that ultimately was
corrected that solved the problem, an inline filter did nothing.
I also suspect that good ignition wires and the right plugs are a given
requirement, even with a good ground.
