Hello,
A long time ago (the 1970's) I went thru several electric pumps on my '68
U20. They were a lot of trouble for me.
1) it was noisy. At first I made the mistake of anchoring it to sheet metal,
sounded like a drumbeat. Even when I moved it to the frame it was noisy. Of
course, I did it wrong and mounted it in the engine bay. The experts
recommend mounting it close to the fuel tank, makes it easier to push the
petrol.
2) I had trouble regulating the pressure. At times it would overflow from
the carbs.
3) they seemed to wear out quickly. The internal gaskets failed after a
couple of years.
4) if you forget to turn it on, or the electrical connection fails, your
engine dies. I had a separate switch as an "anti-theft" measure, but on more
than one occasion forgot to turn it on and the car died at the most
embarassing times.
I went back to the stock manual pump and have been happy ever since then.
But maybe electric pumps are much better now, I don't know.
Cheers,
