oil pan / blocks question

List,
Not too many questions lately on the list so here's a couple...
In removing the oil pan there are two longer screws and a couple of
spacers and a couple of "beer can tab-like" pieces that we are unsure of
the location for.Can't tell easily from the diagrams, anyone know on a
1600 where they go?
Also do most of you use a gasket sealer on the gasket or just tighten
everything up?
Also, does having a car up on blocks stress anything and where are  the
best points to use?
