Andrew, If you have the part of the wheel painted with quality automotive paint, not just something from a spray can then the finish should last a very long time. The wheel should be prepped for paint just like a car body with the exception that the aluminum will require slightly different prep work than steel does. It is possible for a good automotive paint shop to pump several spray cans full of quality automotive paint and then you could spray it yourself.
