Just a couple cents because everybody and their mom has posted on this subject
(SUVs) in the last
few days.

You don't have to drive an SUV to have all wheel drive. Look at Subaru, Audi,
VW, Volvo and even
Porsche and Lamborghini(sp?) for example. Granted, the Lambo probably gets
just as bad gas
mileage, but my trusty Subaru gets 25+mpg and will go anywhere the COMMON man
desires. Will it
hual an RV or load of gravel? Nope, but how many people do this on a regular
basis? Scratch
that, what percentage of SUV owners do?

I couldn't care less about people who have logical (subjective of course)
reasons for buying an
SUV, but buying one for safety or because the "status" they portray, or just
because everyone and
their cousin Lou has one? I think we can use the great Ford Exploder as an
example that SUV and
safety don't necessarily go hand in hand. Would you be more pleased that all
you got was a
headache, but the people in the car that you hit after you lost control died?
Or would you rather
have a couple bumps and bruises and the other people live?

Will I ever own an SUV? - possibly, my wife and I like the outdoors, so there
may be a small RV,
boat, etc. in our future. Will I buy it because of safety? No. Will I buy a
1 ton dually or
Excursion/Surburban? Most likely not, because those vehicles don't fit my
needs, but they do for
some people.

This subject will be of high debate for a long time to come. Everyone thinks
they know the right
answer, but in the end, it's just our own opinion.

Cheers to all, I'm going back to dreaming of owning a Roadster one day.
