<<Does anyone know how you can fill the cracks in a steering wheel (what
would you use) or know of anyone that does this type of repair? Tim Waltz

Hey Tim and folks,
Try a product called Marine-Tex, available in white and black, from the
local marine store. It is a two part epoxy kit that sets up hard enough
that you can actually tap threads in it. Take the 'don't get it on bare
skin' warning seriously, (anything that cures at room temp has a catalyst
that wants to creep thru porous surfaces, like skin) and under-catalyze if
possible, the hotter you 'kick' the mix, the more shrinkage you'll have, and
your repair will want to fall back out. One way to prevent this is to take
a dremel and undercut the inside, so that the once the glob cures it is
trapped. Also, the mix is thick enough that in order to get the air bubbles
out from the bottom of the blind hole, you have to point the end of a tongue
depressor and probe the pile of goo to get all the air out (burp it). Oh,
and don't sand the bare crack surfaces smooth, leave 'em rough or scar them
so that the mix has a lot of surface area to get to, then clean them with
ordinary alcohol. Fergoo the Tinkerer, 69 2000, HB,CA
