Hello All,
I just wanted to say thanks to the many people who wrote me personally to tell
me that they were glad Irene and I are okay.
To the several people who wrote me to tell me that I'm a total schmuck for not
checking out the car before I bought it and didn't even mention that they were
glad that we were okay I say.....
I brought the car first to a jiffy lube where they changed the oil
drained the tranny and filled it, drained the rear diff and filled it and
greased all the fittings. There was a slight metallic sheen in both the
rear diff and tranny fuild and it was pretty obvious that the dif oil had
not been changed lately and it was low. There were no big metal chunks or
flakes in either.
We then took it to his mechanic who had been working on the car for
the past five years and put it up on the lift and checked it out. The
conversion did not look like a hack job from underneath except for the clamp
that held the shifter cable. All the suspension stuff was nice and tight
the wheel bearings were fine the tires had good tread and there was no rust.
The engine ran well shifted well and stopped great.
I asked the mechanic if there were any problems with the car that he
knew
of he said besides the leaky diff and the noisy pinion bearings and the valve
seals needing to be replaced there was nothing wrong with the car. This is the
person who put in the new master cylinder.
On this info we bought and kept the car. The rear end will need to be
rebuilt inthe near future so the seller is giving us 400 bucks back.
I thought that we had checked out the car well enough but at the time I
did not know about the brake lines being too close to the exhaust.
