Had an interesting day yesterday, with a display of Datsun sports cars at
Southbank, here in Melbourne, Australia.
It pissed rain all day, unfortunately. But there was a huge range of cars -
from a '65 1600 roadster that's recently been restored, to a '99 model GT-R,
and a lot of stuff in between. There were race cars, rally cars, and street
machines. Of interest was an original 510 SSS, a couple of cars that had
competed in the Targa Tasmania, and Ian Livingstone's gorgeous 1970 2000 has
just re-hit the road after a total rebuild. No expense spared on this car,
and it's basically a new car. And the beautiful metallic silver-blue
(Sebring blue?) finish is gob-stopping! What a car!
Bruce Campbell (who some of you know) has stepped down as President, after 5
years of building the club to the strength it has today - something like 50
or 60 members! He feels it's time for younger blood to influence the place.
As part of that, we've got two new "social secretaries" on the team -
yours truly being one of them!
Things are going to be good this year, methinks!
Hey guys, did you know that you can get synchro rings for the 5 speed out of
a 180B SSS 4 speed gearbox? It has to be the earlier 4 speed (not the later
"dog leg" 5 speed - that has brass synchro rings) with the steel synchros.
Apparently they're a perfect fit!
Cheers & happy roadstering!
