Well, the Turkey Rod Run is now over. We went and walked ourselves silly
and each came back with some loot. I met up with Jeff Gaver and a non
roadster owner Bob Sanzeri at 6am at a local gas station. This was after
some theatrics (had to charge the daily driver all night - got to Jeff's
place and he graciously suggested we take his car - since mine sounded like
death on wheels.)
We were behind the schedule when we left, but still made good time. The
show was HUGE!! We walked around the car corral for a while and then
started in on the swap meet. It went on and on and on. At about 11:30, we
decided to make for the concession stands for lunch. Jeff and Bob opted for
Gyros, but I had to go for the chop. Unfortunately, all that they had left
were smalls!! (Jeff took a picture anyway - will post it when we can) Oh
well, it tasted great and was better for me that way. We dined in the shade
of a palm tree by the lake, and then continued the trek. We searched in
vain for a Jacksonville Oldsmobile owner that Bob knows, and then headed
back for the swap meet. Not too much Datsun stuff (as was expected) but we
did find a neat 1965 Datsun pickup for sale. The owner was no where to be
found, and there were no phone numbers. It was neat. The cab was in good
shape, but the bed had been replaced with a homemade affair. Woulda been a
fun little parts getter though!
After schlepping around, we were headed out when the contingent from Unique
Motorcars decided to leave. We watched as 4 NICE Cobra replicas left the
area. One lucky customer was taking delivery of his new Cobra Kit while we
were there as well. Neat stuff.
All in all, it was a good time (until we got to the gas station and Jeff's
car was gone - but I will let him tell that story.)
