Here's a first for me. While the radiator is being re-cored I thought
that this would be a good time to clean and paint the shroud, brackets,
and reservoir tank. All well and good until I got to the reservoir.
After giving it light going over with my trusty sand blaster I noticed
several pink spots. After a second pass the pink spots turned into
holes. What, in the name of all that is Holy and profane, eats holes in
brass??!! I then attempted to silver solder the holes. This is the
first time that I've run across brass that won't take silver. Just out
of curiosity I separated the tank to see what was going on inside.
Where the tank had been soft soldered together were large streaks of
lead solder and flux. The inside of the tank is rotted to hell and
gone. Small wonder the silver wouldn't stick. What ever they used for
flux has all but destroyed the tank walls.
Here's hoping it is still available. I should hear from the local
dealer in a day or two.
