>but I thought CA doesn't test diesel engines!
The periodic smoke inspection for heavy diesel equipment, as introduced by
CARB and enforced by the regional boards is a MAJOR pain in the @ss. I had
the displeasure of setting up the records system to track 2,500 busses four
years ago. It was not fun. Even less fun are the inspectors! and then
there's the roadside testing stations. Once one of your vehicles gets hit by
one of those, your entire operation becomes a target. Working for a public
agency means that all the environmental agencies have you targeted as "Deep
Pockets" to pay their payroll!
The "Bio Diesel" is not a "snake oil" It really good fuel. Very low sulfur
and good Cetane for a nice burn. They take used cooking oil and others and
treat it with Methyl alcohol to alter it's properties and then Voila! good
trucking juice! and a nice disposal method of ALL that McDonalds french fry
grease! Used fry oil IS an environmental problem so adding it to the fuel
reserve is an elegant solution.
