Gary and all,

The question would be, HOW FAR DO YOU WANT TO GO?

The easiest thing I have found to just clean and bring a bit of luster
to the aluminum, is to scrub the part with steel wool saturated in
brake fluid.

On a cast item such as an intake manifold, a good wire brush on a drill
does a real nice job. it produces a nice shine and still mainains that
"pebbley" cast look.

Now, for the polish....that is some work!!!!!
that requires sanding with the appropriate grit to remove blemishes,
casting marks, nicks, scratches, etc. You might have to go as rough as
grit as 80 for starters, proceeding through the grits down to at least
a 600 grit.

A lot of work indeed!
 Another thing to look at is this;
On a valve cover for example, it is not uncommon to uncover previously
hidden pores opening up. this is frustrating to say the least.
A bit of work however, and some patience yields some satisfactory
results by the time you get done with the buffer.

Now, the best option if you have the money, is to take it to a bike
shop that does harleys, they can give you a show quality shine, for a
price.

So, the question remains, how far do you want to go?
