A Spitfire with a roof is all it is... the 2 add'l cylinders don't help much.
Once in my mis-guided youth I wanted to buy a Spitfire of similar vintage
(maybe a year or
two newer). In a moment of good judgment I inquired at the local foreign auto
parts shop,
asking the owner his impression of the Spitfire (he campaigned a Jag XK100 in
vintage
events, so knew whereof he spoke).
His reply: "Do you like to work on cars? Do you like to spend your weeknights
fiddling and
tinkering so that you can go for a drive on the weekend with some assurance
that you won't
have to walk home? If not - don't buy a Spitfire." Later my next-door neighbor,
a girl a
couple of years older than me, bought a GT6 because it was - you guessed it -
"cute". In
the year or so that she owned it, her father exercised every bit of the
language he
learned as a Merchant Marine in WWII when working on that car!
One thing you could do - buy the GT6, slap an RAF paint job on it, buy a
Karmann Ghia and
slap an "Abbeville Boys" yellow-nose ME109 paint job on it and have a Battle of
Britain
display - static, of course. :^)
