Thanks for all the pointers!

Originally just one (front), then after several troubleshooting efforts,
both do it equally.

No. Well, I have about 3" tubes, and thought if I'm pouring gas all over
the place, I'll run long ones into the wheel well. I was already advised
against that, so put the 3"ers back.

Came with the carbs - I assume 1 yr old.

they are.

I had never put any fuel additive in until after all this started.

Well, THAT makes sense (Daryl Smith pointed this out too), but I'm sure
I checked! Surely I would've noticed the spacer on the garage floor!!
I just re-checked. There are what look like 2 pieces, comprising about
7/16" thickness. I'm _pretty sure_ the only difference is I tore the
old gasket, so made a new one - it's gotta be w/in a 1/32" of the same
thickness. Does that sound right?
Maybe I'll have someone ELSE check.

Ok. 1) Will check for muddobbers :) , 2) have someone else check my
pump spacers, then 3) go for a lid swap (thanks Victor Laury and
datsunmike), or at least back to stock jet.
thanks all!
