I hope it's just running rich. I need to give it a good tune-up. It
is a whitish smoke, which implies to me oil (at least it's not very
black). I've had the head off twice recently (once just wasn't good
enough, I guess) and had it checked and shaved by a machine shop, who
said it was in unusually good condition (hadn't been cut previously).
I would've paid for valve seals/etc. if needed at that time - a lot
easier than pulling the head off again!
There are two other symptoms but they happen more often:
1. a valve clacks loudly. I've adjusted and readjusted but I guess
I'll do it again.
2. It pings and smokes a bit (not as much as my previous e-mail) when
accelerating from a stop, but it didn't do this before my head
removal/etc. (at least not the pinging) so I hope it's just timing/carb
adjustment/valve adjustment. It also idles a little rough (and
possibly lower than I'd like).
