Hi Gang -
Sometimes good things come to those that suffer. Some on the last weekend
WyCROC run heard this story, but for those who haven't experienced the beauty
of the TOP of the WORLD from 14,264 feet up and got to hear this, gotta tell
ya.
While I has spending millions on having my '63 rod knock problem fixed, a
young lady from the local auto parts wandered into the shop and saw my car.
She asked the owner if he thought I would WANT ANOTHER? He gave me her name
and number and said her mother had a "Fairlady 2000" she wanted to "get rid
of." Dropped in Saturday and talked with the gal and she called her mother.
Mom said she had a '69 Datsun that belonged to her departed husband that was
parked in 1994 in the backyard and she wanted it "gone." Went over later
that day and discovered a real half decent looking "all there" '69 2000.
Told her I could pull it out of there if she could find the key (locking
steering wheel). She found it Sunday, and once we got back from the climb up
Mount Evans, headed over and hooked it up and towed it home.
Here it is four days later and with the removal of a gazillion leaves and
layers of grease off the engine, a new battery, oil change, antifreeze,
gas....and ....VAROOM. The beast CAME ALIVE. Runs like a champ. Everything
but the tach works, has extra electric cooling fan (that works) electric fuel
pump and runs out WAY FUN.
Will have some major rocker panel rust removal and replacements (any ideas if
there are body panels for the under the door area). Need to replace the top
back windows (but the top is in, as strange as it may seem, really workable
shape). HEY - FOR FREE, who's complaining ;-))
