The weekend project is to check and clean the alternator. I did not see
anything in the archives on how to rebuild or even steps to check it,
just "take it to a reputable rebuilder". Gee, how is anybody to learn
anything if we all just did that?
Sooooo, how does the case open? Do you have to remove the pulley nut or
just the 3 long case screws? And are brushes still available? What other
parts are needed? And is there some kind of cleaning and/or grasing to
do inside the case? I do remember seeing the "brushes" on another car's
alternator and I was surprised to see that they were not brushes at all
but little block things....oh well. thanks for any help.
