I have too many race car projects and not enough time and room so I would
like to sell this one to somebody serious about restoring a vintage race
2000 to bring out and have some fun with us (hopefully on the east coast!).
This car needs total restoration but is a very sound car with a well
documented history and will be a very interesting racer when restored.
History: The car was originally built by the Schuler Brothers (Car Dealer)
of Wilkes Barre PA from a fire damaged 68 2000. It was raced as part of a
three car team (a 1600 (JH Bahn owns this one), 2000 and a 240Z) in the
early 70s. The brothers later moved on to other more modern cars and ran
races like the six hours of the Glen and national races in GT cars and a
Sports 2000. JH Bahn and I have met with the brothers and obtained copies
of original photos and driver's logbooks showing the cars as raced. This
car was raced in PA hillclimbs and also in northeast SCCA races at the
Glen, Pocono, Bridgehampton etc.
The car: I bought the car as a bare roller a couple of years ago. It is NOT
rusty but has much bondo in the rear quarters from race damage at the Glen
(Schuler's confirmed this). One front fender has been repaired and I think
it should be replaced the other is super. The car has its original rollbar
stamped with PHA (PA hillclimb association) and SCCA numbers, a flat dash
as installed when first modified for racing. Has Nissan comp suspension
with front and rear swaybars.
The deal: To make this a good restoration package I will provide with the car:
2 Liter 0.040 over race block with matching Arias 12:1 pistons
crank and race prepped rods (lightened, polished, shot peened)
Race Head, chambers modified for pistons and modified for spraybar
Full race cam, New race valve springs and hybrid retainers to use L-series
lash pads
8 quart pan
BRE remote oil filter adapter, oil cooler
Period correct, old style Solex-Mikuni carbs, 75mm airhorns and manifold
5 speed transmission (stock ratios)
Detroit locker rear
6 Period correct, 14" Libra wheels
I would like $3500.00 or offers for this package. I might consider selling
the roller only but not the race parts without the car. If you understand
the scope of this project and are seriously interested contact me by email
(munger@vims.edu or DatsunDoc@aol.com). I want to see this car restored. I
have a zip file with some pics of the car 30 years ago and current condition.
Thanks,
Mike
