I'm sorry. When I spoke of getting the engine to running temperature, that
was in referrence to breaking loose stuck or overtightened spark plugs, not
to installing new ones.
I agree that you should not completely remove them or instal new ones when
the engine is hot.

I'm not a machinist, but if aluminum expands, won't such expansion
actually squeeze the hole smaller since the expanding metal has to
go _somewhere_?
To my knowledge, torqueing a spark plug on a hot head is likely to lead
to needing to experiment with installing helicoil inserts :-)
