Beautiful day last week, 25 degrees C, sun shining - clouds had cleared and
humidity had dropped - perfect for driving home from work with roof down.
"Ladybird" runs well in those conditions - that missing problem I've
mentioned hasn't been seen to yet, but it's not as prevalent on days that
aren't so hot.
Pull up at the lights, and a couple of young guys (ouch - that hurt, I'm
only 30!) are next to me in a Nissan Skyline - alloy wheels, racing harness
& all. A bit of a poser car, I suppose. They saw the Datsun badge and wind
the window down: "Hey mate, what model is that?"
"'68"
"'68! That's a gorgeous car, man - what's under the bonnet?"
(I'm thinking that my car is 15 years older than this kid)
"2 litre, overhead cam - about 150 horses" (Well, gross, anyway!)
"Yeah? Man, that's sick! Nice car!"
Lights change, he turns off, but I'm letting him hear my little baby do
5000+ revs half a block away!
Aaahhh, it's nice to have people stop and say things like that. Makes my
day. So call me shallow!
Funny thing is, I was about his age when I first laid eyes on a Datsun
Sports roadster, so maybe one day he'll join us...
I hope so, anyway. (At least he drives a Nissan)
Cheers,
Steve
