I am not an authority, but my observation has been that the
earlier cars have chrome grilles while later cars have body-color.

I don't know when the change took place, but I strongly
suspect it was 67.5 and had to do with the DOT 'no shiny parts'
ruling. 67.5 is when the chrome gauge surrounds disappeared.
Non-US cars may differ.
