$2500 dollars buys you a 68 1600 roadster that is 85% done.
Engine compression 180 plus.
Starts every time. Pulls strong up to 6,000 rpm
Within the last 2 years I have spent $8,000 on:
Ball Joints
Brakes and Brake lines
Tires
Battery and cables
Rewired with separate feeds for 65amp alt.
One side is for factory fuses.
One side is for fog lights and stereo. (200watt per amp)
Miata seats
Grant Wheel
Anti Collision light that flashes when breaking
Custom Mirrors
Headers with New Exhaust
New convertible top. Zip down rear window) AC!
Fuel Pump
Starter
Hoses
Radiator
Fuel Tank is Clean
New Clutch in box(not needed yet)

What does it need:
Body work and a paint job.
Fuel Gauge
Front end aligned. (Not bad but on my wish list)
Transmission a little noisy. 2nd gear is slow to sync.
That's it unless you what it back to stock then you will need
Front bumper
Glove Box (amp gauges and dual fuse set up in this area now)
Stock Wheel (I have)
So why mess with a back yard who knows what?
