Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving!!
Each year, an organization of Street Rod enthusiasts in Daytona Beach host 2
car shows. One is in the spring, and the other (larger) one is Thanksgiving
weekend. They expanded it a couple of years ago to run Thursday through
Sunday. They cap show car registration at 5000 cars (and they turn cars
away each year!!), and the swap meet area is even bigger than the show car
area! I have not missed that show since I moved to Florida. It would be
great to get some Roadster owners to participate. My car will not make it
(still in parts, sigh.) but I will be there! It is a great place to find
parts cheap (I saw 1600 Roadster SU carbs for $25 with the manifold one
year) as they cater to the muscle car crowd. That is by no means who all
shows up though (There was a 1960(?) Gogomobile prototype there last year as
well as a couple of Tigers, some MGBs a few Lotus 7's and a bunch of other
sports car stuff) but the bonus is that since they cater to the V8 crowd,
the 4 cylinder stuff is usually CHEAP!! It is a great scavenger hunt.
My suggestion is to go on Saturday - the best haggling can be done then, and
at the end of the day a lot of vendors are packing up to go home and they
don't want to take it with them! I plan to arrive at 7:30am and I bring a
little red wagon with some hand tools (I learned this the hard way) I also
bring a small cooler with some soft drinks (much cheaper that way!) If
anyone is interested in attending, drop me a line off list and I can give
you more details - perhaps we can set up a meeting place!
