I roll my own using Avery die cut card stock. Haven't bought any of the
card stock recently, but I remember a box of 50 (I think) sheets of 10
cards runs $20 to $25. Pricey on a per card basis compared to traditional
printing, but convenient if you need cards quickly in small quantities.
The big office supply chain stores can usually provide fairly quick turn
around at surprisingly inexpensive prices, too, if you don't want to mess
with doing it yourself.

As for doing the layout yourself, you can use a drawing program, a word
processor, or a database. Some already have templates for the Avery card
stock. I use either a ClarisWorks or FileMaker Pro database since they
let me create the design once in the layout mode and then just tell the
program that I want 10 records to fill a page of the card stock. Even
using a laser printer, these aren't as durable as offset printed cards.

If anyone wants details, contact me off-list and I'll send them.

FWIW, Ron
