First of all, are you overheating or are you just losing coolant? How much
is small? A quart a day? 50cc"s a month? A pint a tankfull? Is your
carpet wet, and/or is the heater 100% OK? Are there little bubbles in the
coolant when you run the engine without the radiator cap? If it is not
overheating, have you pressurized a cold system for an extended period of
time? An hour or two under pressure may show a small leak externally
(manifold gasket, hoses, carb heater, gasket mating surfaces, etc. ) Have
you done a leakdown check of the cylinders? You may find the pinhole with
that. The big 3" thick Chiltons (or other) manuals have good generic
troubleshooting procedures for any car. Do the procedures IN ORDER and you
will find your problem. It may cost you a bit of money, but you've already
spent time and money and haven't found the problem. A friend of mine just
carries a jug or two of water and replaces as necessary, figuring the water
is cheaper than the alternative.
