Regarding safety/
If the car weighs 1700 pounds and you can panic stop at 1 g, The rear tie
down straps only need to hold a ton to carry the static load. The actual
load during even a moderate crash may exceed 10 g's that requires much more
than 1000# tie downs. DON'T USE THEM!
USE CHAIN!
If you hit something, and the car comes loose of the mounting, consider that
you have been hit by a tailgater that never even touched the brakes!
A friend of mine once commented that it was un wise to loose load anything
in the back that you wouldn't want to be hit in the head with.
