Phil,
Near my brother's place in San Francisco was a BMW
with an alarm always going off. Since parking is at a premium,
the owner might have lived 5 blocks away. The alarm was a
major annoyance. A neighbor once asked the driver of the
vehicle to reset the alarm so it was not so sensitive, and was
greeted with a finger salute!
A few days later a sign was on the windshield "Dear Thief, Everyone
ignores this alarm, just disconnect the battery when you steal the
stereo!". Next morning there was a HOLE cut into the hood, to cut
the battery cable... yep, stereo was gone, too.
I just like putting a club on the steering wheel, and setting the kill switch.
When driving the roadster cross country, I would REMOVE the steering
wheel and take it in with me at night, leaving the toneau cover over the
car. I hate noisy alarms.
