Had a noise in the right rear the other morning. Parked it and noticed fluids
on the inside of the wheel and tire. Pulled the axle out and all the grease
had come out of the bearing. The day before, I had gone for a run and left
the parking
brake partially on. Hadn't realized it got that hot.
Cleaned everything up, had the bearings and collars removed. Went to put
everything back together to take and get the bearings press on and discovered
the outer seal on the passenger side (the one with the leaky bearing)
wouldn't fit flat on the backing plate. Turns out the center hole was raised
and enlarged. The seal was all bent out of shape. The PO must have had a
massive bearing failure. Can't figure out what was rubbing against it (not
any of the current parts). There is a support inside the axle about half way
that the axle passes thru. It has 4 holes in it. This is partially worn away
towards the back, and there is a corresponding groove in the axle.
Does this sound like a bearing failure caused this?
I hope your still with me, cause this is where I need help. Does anyone have
a backing plate, passenger side, they could sell me. I need to get it very
soon, as
Shasta is just around the corner. I had hoped to make it to the autox at PIR
Sunday, but it doesn't look like that's possible.
Please advise ASAP if you can help.
Thanks.
