Andrew, My fellow 1970 owning cool brother, (see now you have new status!)
We (as in us very special owners) have a gas cap COMPLETELY UNIQUE from all
those lesser roadsters. Don't know anything about it's venting
characteristics, as a mater of fact I don't believe it vents at all. When
you open the tank when empty it has a lot of pressure behind it.
Any way, Stan Chernoff has a very new very shiny new 70 roadster cap that
you MUST HAVE. Cause, like, you know, you got, like, a 70 and, oh yea,
another roadster, uh, one of the lesser varieties.

Subject: Gas Cap?
All,
I have been checking out SRL311-13951 and have been pretty happy with it.
When I picked it up it had a piece of junk hard top on it that the PO threw
in. Upon driving it home (About 65 miles) I noticed a strong gasoline smell
and I got TERRIBLE gas mileage. I felt for sure I had a fuel leak somewhere.
Upon arriving home, I checked for one but could not find it.
I then checked out the gas cap, and it was shot. Rusty. Locking pin broken
off. I have no idea if it is sealing or not or if it would cause the strong
gasoline smell I noticed. I replaced the gas cap with the one off of my 67
and it gets much better mielage. Still not good, but this car needs a MAJOR
tune up. The car is idling at 1400 RPM.
I have heard some issues about "vapor lock" as it pertains to gas caps. Any
input would be appreciated.
