Well. it's been quite a long day! I just started the car. It would seem to
be running on all four. Well, at least at idle. Never got it out of the
drive. After the start, I smelt burning rubber. I was peering down at the
headers, thinking I had left something lying against them, when my fan belt
broke. For some reason, the alternator thought this would be a good time to
freeze up! It's not a surprise as much as I have heard it squeaking for some
time now.
Things went together quite well. I guess "practice makes perfect" cause
things that used to take me hours, now took minutes. EXCEPT for that
#@%$%$^& blasted nut, lower, rear exhaust/intake manifold.
I replaced all the con rod bearings. They didn't need it. I rebuilt the oil
pump. sprayed out many passages. I think I'm OK. I'm not all that sure about
the bore condition. The old pro for my auto parts store stopped by and said
it was alright. There was some visible vertical scratches. These could be
seen but not felt. I'm never sure on how much to hone and I always stop
before I feel I'm finished.
So, how to you break-in ONE new piston and rings?
