I was excited to go to Solvang, I really do love that show.
On the way up, more than 3/4 of the way there. I lost a cylinder. I don't
know why. But it spewed oil all over my show ready car. Believe me, the fact
it got dirty was the least of my worries. I decided to make the show where I
knew I would have lots of support. And I did! Thank you Stan, Phil, and
Craig for the assistance. We found that #3 had no compression. The valves
were all seated, so we guessed that I burned a hole in the piston. That's a
mystery, cause, I run rich and I wasn't detonating (I was going 110+ maybe
that had something to do with it?).
Phil suggested that I kill the cylinder by removing the rockers and leave
the plug un hooked. And this was a big improvement. It still ran well on
three cylinders but no longer acted like a oily mess of a pump!
I drove almost all the way home (over a hundred miles) quite well until the
traffic stopped in the San Fernando Valley. When I stopped, so did the
engine, never to restart. $126 for a tow the rest of the way and no I'm car
less. Even worse, I'm Roadster less.
I'll keep you all posted on the tear-down and discoveries
