What are the disadvantages, if any,of running a motor without a thermostat
(in the summer months anyway)?
Several weeks ago, while tuning my carbs, I reached over and felt the top
radiator hose--it was cold, but the rest of the motor was definitely HOT. I
killed the key and could hear the coolant boiling inside the motor for
several seconds! (no apparent damage yet) After letting the motor cool, I
pulled out the thermostat and have left it out since. Now the motor seems
to have no cooling problems. Obviously, it will take the motor longer to
reach operating temp but beyond that, is there really any harm to leaving it
out? I definitely don't want to risk having the thermostat not open again.
What do ya think?
