You left out a couple of heinous alternatives:
Weber 40 DCOEs on a Solex manifold
Weber 44 DCOEs on a custom manifold.
And a custom linkage followed by weeks and weeks of jetting fun!
Actually, it probably wouldn't be too bad.
The advantages? Carbs and parts are available and relatively (to Solex,
not SU) cheap, the carbs are a well-known and muchly-tuned beast, and
they're eminently tunable.
Me, I've stull got SU's on the roadster...
